Master of Science in Physical Education with an option in Exercise and Wellness

skinfold assessment National emphasis on people living healthier lifestyles has never been greater. Students in the Exercise and Wellness option learn the knowledge and skills necessary to serve as professionals in this ever-expanding field. Students take courses in applied exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and lifetime wellness to provide a thorough grounding in theory, research and practice. The curriculum concludes with an internship in which the student works with a mentor in a health or fitness agency. Participating agencies include Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Ervin-McDowell Wellness Center, TriHealth, HIT Center, EKU Student Recreation Center, area YMCAs, and local and regional fitness centers.

Graduates of the program are well prepared to certify through one of the many certification organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine or National Strength and Conditioning Association and obtain professional positions in fitness centers, corporate or hospital wellness programs, community health, fitness and recreation agencies or as personal trainers or strength and conditioning specialists.

  • Students completes 30 credit hours to earn the Master of Science degree.
  • The program may be completed in three semesters or one calendar year if pursued full-time.
  • A maximum of 9 hours of 700 level courses is permitted.
  • A thesis is not required in the program.
