The Department of Exercise and Sport Science has three (3) main areas in which
graduate teaching assistants play a part.
First, the Department of Exercise and Sport Science teaches in Eastern Kentucky
University's General Education Program. The department teaches PHE 180 Lifetime
Fitness and Wellness which fulfills the three credit requirement in the Wellness
Option (Block VI). Graduate assistants are needed for the activity portion of the
course (fitness testing and teaching proper exercise techniques).
Second, the Exercise and Lifetime Activity Courses (HPR 190/390) offer a variety
of lifetime leisure skills courses that are available as electives for students.
Graduate assistants are needed to teach in the areas of: tennis, golf, weight training, cardio and tone, step aerobics, jogging, swimming, martial arts, fencing, yoga,
pilates, and others.
Third, one graduate assistant is needed in the area of aquatics. The graduate assistant will help with aquatic courses in the Exercise and Sport Science curriculum {Beginning and Intermediate Swimming - PHE 241/242}, and courses in the Lifetime Activity Series - Water Aerobics, Swimming (HPR 190/390). To fulfill this role, the graduate assistant must have current lifeguarding certification.
